Healthcare UK - all we hoped it would be?

Interesting story in the Mirror recently about the child healthcare index and the UK's placing.

Being a G8 country you'd guess (not unreasonably) that we'd be in the top 8 countries worldwide for child healthcare - but no. We're 14th. That's nine places behind Belarus and 11 places behind Ireland.

Story here - what do you think of the UK's index placing of 14th?

Are our grandparents making our children fat?

Interesting story from The Daily Mail today:

Indulgent grandparents 'overfeed' kids and make them fat, scientists warn

It seems that grandparents babysitting have been a little to generous with the cakes and biscuits, leading to a rise in obesity and an increase in child healthcare issues.

There's a bit more on the science behind these findings on the NHS Choices website.

British Heart Foundation Report Highlights Concerns over Child Exercise Levels

A very concerning report has been published by the British Heart Foundation which reveals that children across the UK are not getting the levels of exercise they require (60 minutes a day is recommended).

"Couch Kids - the nations future" contains some startling statistics, not least of which is that many girls and boys in England are not even exercising for 30 minutes each day.

You can read more about the report from this BBC News article or from the British Heart Foundation website. You can also download the full report from this page.

Why are our children still not getting the excercise they need? We would like your thoughts on this......
