EXCLUSIONS OF PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY INSURANCE FOR DOCTORS

Apart from the cover offered to the doctors and medicos in the professional indemnity insurance, there are certain exclusions also. This means that there are a number of issues for which, if the doctor is held liable, the insurance company will not cover him i.e. the insurance company will not pay any kind of damages. Some of the inclusions are:

Any liability arising from the criminal act or violation of law is not covered.

If anything goes wrong with the patient and you are found under the influence of intoxicants or drugs.

If you have used drugs to reduce a patient's weight and if it is found out or anything happens to the patient during treatment.

Claims made against the doctor because of the cosmetic surgery going wrong.

Any kind of liability arising out of intentional non compliance of the statutory provisions mentioned.

There are many other exclusions which should be made clear before buying a professional indemnity insurance policy for the doctors. It is always advisable to get in touch with a knowledgeable insurance agent and gather all the information and understand it thoroughly about the kind of policy you want to buy.

IT Contractor Insurance is a must in today’s litigious world

As a freelance IT contractor, you may not only face litigations from clients but there might be many other problems as well. As a self-employed IT Contractor you will not earn any money unless you do some work; Injury or illnesses may hinder you from carrying out your work; when you are out of work, you may run into financial difficulties, etc.One solution for all these problems is IT contractor insurance. Trends are increasing, claiming professional indemnityfrom contractors even when a small mistake is made. The clients have become much more aware about the laws that protect them and thus can call in allegations even if you cause them a minimal loss of money. Thus, IT contractors need insurance, as even a single claim could ruin your entire business.

IT Contractor Insurance can help in mitigating the risk of legal claims, and is ideally suited for sole contractors because the risks are shared by many policyholders, making the compensation cost equal the size of their business. Indeed, the cost of defending a major claim far exceeds the premium cost and can threaten many small businesses of complete extinction.
You may consider getting your insurance for IT contractors right away. Get your insurance quote now! Visit

New year resolutions

New year resolutions abound at this time of year, although the talk is all about the ones made for next year and never the ones that were kept to from this year.

And maybe that's the problem with resolutions - maybe we're too strictly focussed on one goal. Take not smoking - rather than an unachievable 'I will stop smoking on January 1st', why not make a determined attempt to cut down over the next months with a view to stopping altogether?

January is better for some resolutions than others though - for instance, after all that rich Christmas food, the boxes of Quality Street, Celebrations, etc., the Christmas pudding, eating less in the new year always starts off well. And after all those Christmas beers and glasses of wine, January always starts off well in the healthy stakes.

One of the more challenging new year's jobs is looking at all the financial stuff - seeing how badly your current account has been mauled is never fun. But some of the other financial stuff like looking at what insurance policies you have, savings or other financial products you may need - well, best not put it off as these are the things that can make a life a lot easier. There may even be financial products that you previously weren't aware of or are surprised by how inexpensive they are - things like health insurance for children, dental cover and so on.

National health service - latest

The latest NHS news doesn't make for a chirpy read:

Independent headline: A manifesto for NHS civil war

It certainly looks like a rough time ahead not only for people working in the NHS but for service users as well.

The Telegraph quotes Dr Mark Porter, Chairman of the British Medical Association’s Consultants Committee, who says that [threatened services] "are by and large not being axed for clinical reasons, but as an inevitable consequence of the massive cost savings that have been imposed on the NHS.

It is far from clear at the moment what the UK is going to look like in 2011, but what with the changes in NHS and higher education, one thing is clear: we are entering a time that's going to be very different from what went before.

Personal accident, sickness and Travel Insurance to suffice your urgent needs

If you are a freelance professional or if do not receive sickness benefits from your employer, you ought to make you own provisions. Can you afford to be off work due to an accident, illness or if you are sick? If your answer is ‘no’, then you should carry a personal accident sickness insurance and health & safety insurancepolicy- for you and your family’s sake. When you are planning to get an insurance policy for personal accident, sickness and travel, insurers usually ask for information about your medical history and any special, dangerous pursuits. These details do not work against you but help your insurance provider to gauge your insurance needs and tailor a policy according to your needs.

As a freelancer, having the right insurance in place is as vital as having your daily food. Personal accident, sickness or problems when you travel, can seriously hamper your ability to earn an income or to be able to pay for medical expenses overseas and substitute lost items. Personal Accident, Sickness & Travel Insurance policy will usually pay you a lump sum amount on death or for specified disabilities.

PMI recommended

Report in the Insurance Daily from Friday, under the headline: Public encouraged to take up PMI.

Basically the report says now's the time to be thinking about private medical insurance, since "Health Secretary Andrew Lansley [decided] to scrap the NHS targets to see a family doctor in 48 hours and the 18 week treatment period"

Perhaps the most interesting part of the report is this:

"Eight out of 10 Britons are concerned about the costs of healthcare, and confused about certain aspects of it (a third are unaware dental check ups are not free)."

What mustn't ever be allowed to happen is for clarity regarding healthcare to be sacrificed in order for politics to do its thing. Let's have government communication lines open no matter who is in power. I would also like to see a monthly PMI magazine on the shelves of the newsagents, with all the latest info on health and healthcare.

IR35 Insurance for freelancers and small businesses

IR35 insurance is essentially a tax investigation cover. For true or false reasons, you may become a prey to IR35 and end up paying a huge part of your yearly savings as tax instead! That sounds awful!Well to know whether or not you and your business need insurance against IR35, proper research is required; and based on HRMC laws, you can determine whether you will fall into the category to pay IR35 tax.IR35 insurance products usually cover the costs of a tax investigation, and even the tax and national insurance liabilities which may arise from an HMRC enquiry. IR35 has been taxing business owners since the past nine years but despite efforts to abolish this law, the results have remained negative. There has been an ever more in increase in the number of people opting for insurance covers including protection against IR35 as it may cause the worst impacts on your business if it comes your way!

The complexities of the tax system are beyond normal understanding; and however hard you try, you cannot rule out tax problems completely out of the list. Good insurance protects you when IR35 investigations are made and you become liable to pay huge sums to compensate for the legal claims made.
